If you could ask your pet any question (and they could answer you), what would it be?

Belle: Why are you so scared of me?
Ginger: Does the fact that you are the biggest one make you feel like bossing the other mice around? Are you nervous about what will happen when the other catch up to you?
Gypsy: Are you obsessive/compulsive about rearranging the bedding?
Bree: Are you feeling alright? Is there anything I can do for you? And most importantly, when are you going to have your babies?

I am so excited that I just have to do something wild and crazy and actually update my lj! Here goes!

-I was kinda crazy and decided to get tickets for the Great Big Sea show in Victoria in March even though I have already saw them twice in December. [info]tabslock can't go with me 'cause she has to work, but I just found out information that will absolutely assure that nina will go with me, even if she doesn't know it yet. That information? Spirit of the West will be opening for GBS! Nina loves Spirit of the West! Eeeee! Also, Leanne has agreed to help pay for nina's ticket and portion of the hotel as my birthday present, so really nina has no choice but to say yes, heh heh. (Barring of course a really really good reason she couldn't, but it would have to be really really really important)

-Last week (last Thursday to be exact) I went to the pet store and got 4 new female mice. Their names are Gypsy, Ginger, Belle and Bree, and they are very very cute. Bree and Gypsy are the friendliest so far, Ginger tolerates handling and Belle is still pretty skittish. The exciting thing about these mice though, is that even though I got them from this pet store because it separates it's males from the females, my little Bree has been looking very very pear shaped starting about 2 days ago! And what does a pear shaped mouse mean? It means lots of teeny tiny pink mousey babies on the way! I am so excited! (and nervous too, I hope everything goes well) I called the pet store and they will take any unwanted babies so I don't have to worry about what to do with the little boys, but I intend to keep at least some of the girls depending on how many she has. Eeeeee!

-And on a productive note, I submitted my application for UBC! Wish me luck!

Now I should get to bed so that I can get up early tomorrow and buy tickets for the Juno Cup, which is a hockey game between musicians and pro hockey players that will be taking place the day after the GBS concert and is featuring two of the members of GBS!

Yesterday was an interesting night at work. There was a couple who came in and got food of some sort, and they were sitting there eating when the woman's water broke! She was so embarrassed because of the mess, and well because her pants were all wet, but we just cleaned it up and congratulated them (and then I went and threw all the cloths in the washing machine with lots of bleach). They had ordered a brownie earthquake to have later, and ended up forgetting it in the freezer 'cause they were a bit distracted. I left a note saying that if they came back and told the story then they would get a free brownie earthquake, I'm sure people were amused today reading that story.

Last sunday night I took mum to see Hairspray, and it was awesometastic. It was hilarious and bouncy and just so much fun. The newer movie was my first encounter with Hairspray, and I loved that, but the play was even better. I don't think anyone who likes musicals could watch that one, with all the bouncy songs and dancing and cool 60's costumes and funny lines, and not like it. You can't stop the beat!

Next week I get to see Great Big Sea (twice!) and I am so excited for that. I have to figure out what to wear though, and how to smuggle in a camera because the venue says no cameras/recording devices. I'll figure something out.

For now I have to worry about my Invert lab exam tomorrow, and then studying for the Invert final, which is at 8:30 am the day after the second concert, bleh. I did pretty well on my paper though, I got 8/10 which isn't too bad considering I wrote 13 out of the 15 pages the night before it was due. I get to find out my mark for my presentation tomorrow.

Don't forget to give me your address on my previous entry if you want a holiday card! And Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans reading this!

Speaking of Thanksgiving: The Macy's Parade was RickRolled! I find it funny that I only have to see the word "RickRolled" and the song gets stuck in my head.

I seem to be unable to focus on the numerous windows I have open about butterfly migration for my invert project, so I figured I would update lj.

Today in my Anthropology class we watched a video narrated by Susan Sarandon and part of it focused on Billy Tipton, who was biologically female but who began cross dressing in 1933 so that she could play jazz music, because at that time females weren't allowed to play jazz, and ended up living as a man for the rest of her adult life. Billy even married and adopted kids and no one knew he was physically a female until he died. He gave a story that he had been in an accident that required him to wrap his chest and had mutilated his genitals. It's a fascinating story. Imagine being one of his sons and finding out your dad had been lying all of your life. And yet doing that enabled Billy to live his dream of being a jazz musician.

On sunday we had a very sad day at my house, because after being sick for a few days one of my mice, Prudy, finally gave up and passed away. Poor mousie. She was about 8 months old and came down with some sort of internal illness that resulted in her losing a lot of weight and having diarrhea, and by the end she wasn't eating or drinking. I feel so sad that she is gone, but at least she got to have a happy mousie life instead of getting sold to a reptile owner. And now I am worried that her sister, Penny, is going to feel lonely. I am considering getting another mouse or two to keep Penny company. Two would probably be better, because otherwise the new mouse would be lonely when Penny eventually dies, but that will require some re-working of my mouse cage situation.

At least school is going well so far. My marks for my recent bout of tests are as follows:
botany midterm: 84%
anthro miderm: 91%
invert lab exam: 85.5%
invert midterm: 96%

and I just had a botany lab exam yesterday (the day after my mouse died, that was fun) which I think I did alright on.

Oh, but I just checked the listings for finals today and found out that I have my Invert final at 8:30am Dec. 5th. Yes, that is the morning after the Great Big Sea concert that I have front row tickets to. Uggggh. I figure this is the bad luck to counteract the incredibly good luck of getting amazing tickets.

I guess that is enough time killing, back to circadian clocks and wind and butterflies.

In other news, I have 5 days off starting tomorrow, and I plan to enjoy them as a final huzzah to summer before school starts on tuesday. I have mixed feelings about school, but at least I'm not dreading it like I was last year. The one thing that sucks royally though is that this semester involves a 'field school' at Bamfield marine science station, and that happens to be over the same weekend as Halloween. :( I would be happy about the field trip, except I love halloween and it really sucks that I am going to miss it. It's even on a friday this year! Wah.

Last night it was raining so it was really slow, so I went and found a word search generator and made a "Dairy Queen Super Fun Word Time" wordsearch to pass the time. We've been doing competitive word hunting lately, because those are easier than the crossword puzzles that we never managed to complete. It's lots of fun! You can put whatever words you want into it.

Random bits from today:

-The women's beach volleyball team from Brazil had "BRA" written across the front of their tops (the men's beach volleyball had BRA on their backs, but that was less amusing)

-I forgot my phone at work. Fortunately I am working tomorrow. Also fortunately it is on silent, so if people called or texted me tonight then it wouldn't have disturbed anyone.

-I heard an awesome joke about a chicken, which I will probably be telling to people from now on. It's reliant on sounds to be funny though, otherwise I would tell it here

-takeout from the mongolian grill is yummersons

-I totally raided the disney soundtracks of the people I am pig-sitting (guinea pigs, that is) for

-our ceiling isn't very interesting

-I think I saw a meteor. It's hard to tell with all the light pollution though. One of the few times that I wish I were still living in chilliwack, where I could go walk into a field or convice someone to drive to a nice dark spot where the meteor shower could be seen. I would take a walk over to a park nearby to see if I have any better luck there, but I am alone and don't have my cellphone so that's probably not such a good idea. I'll probably go stand outside again in a while and see if I can see any more. Stupid streetlights.

-This is awesomesauce.

-I don't know if I could ever live completely by myself.

-David Hyde Pierce was in a broadway musical called "Curtains" (ok, this is really a random bit from yesterday when I found the soundtrack at the library, but I am just listening to it now)

ETA: I did go back outside later and saw a big meteor flash right away! It was awesome. I saw a few more before deciding it was too cold and going back inside.
